- Switzerland
23 September - 8 October
- Augstmatthorn, Bern Before starting the hike to the Augstmatthorn at 3pm, I have been staring at the mountains from the window of my hotel room the whole day, hoping for the low clouds to lift up. For 6 hours, the clouds were sticking to the mountain ridge, and I had very little hope of seeing anything from the summit. But hey, this was my last day in the Jungfrau region and I didn't want to leave without having hiked to that peak.
- Lauterbrunnen, Bern The picturesque valley of Lauterbrunnen at its best time of the day, just before night. #peaksofeurope Starting today until the 15th of October, some of my photos of Switzerland that I took last winter in March will be exhibited in @utrechtcentraal, Netherlands, along with the photos of @michielpieters @croyable and @claireonline. You will have the opportunity to like and share the photos offline and by doing so, maybe win a trip for 2 in Switzerland! Good luck! Shot for @myswitzerland | @jungfrauregion
-
- Derborence, Valais #peaksofeurope
- Interlaken, Bern Why does everyone love autumn colors so much? Do we actually all like yellow and orange or is it just because we can finally experience a change after 4 or 5 months of green everywhere and those colors are extraordinary, literally? I mean, what if the trees were all yellow during spring and summer and would turn green just for a couple of weeks in autumn? Wouldn't it be amazing as well? #peaksofeurope
- Zermatt, Valais The most emblematic mountain of the Alps, the Matterhorn / Cervino, a natural border between Switzerland and Italy, glowing at sunrise. An incredible 4,478m peak, the 12th highest of the Alps, that has been climbed for the first time in 1865, 79 years after Mont-Blanc. #peaksofeurope @haglofs Shot for @myswitzerland | @valaiswallis
- Wengen, Bern Changing seasons in the picturesque valley of Lauterbrunnen. Last time I was there was 2 years ago on a rainy day of November, when all the trees had lost their leaves already. It was great to finally see that place in full colors! #peaksofeurope #whpseasons @myswitzerland | @jungfrauregion
- Col du Grand St Bernard, Valais Room with a view, but even better than that. A room in Switzerland with a view on Italy. You can actually see the customs building. #peaksofeurope Shot for @myswitzerland | @valaiswallis
- Gornergrat glacier, Valais After yesterday's post featuring the Alps' biggest glacier (Aletsch glacier), here's a shot of the second biggest one: Gorner glacier. No matter how many times I see these giants of the mountains, I'm speechless in front of such beauty. Being in such wild and vast landscapes always make me realize how tiny and insignificant we humans are and how we should be more respectful and humble towards our planet Earth.
- Belalp, Valais I couldn't end this #PeaksOfEurope trip without having seen the Alps' biggest glacier. Although I've seen it two years ago on an impromptu stop in Bettmeralp and from the top of the Jungfrau station, this time I wanted a new angle, so I stayed in the lovely car-free village of Belalp. From there you can see the very end of the 23km long / 3.5km wide Aletsch glacier and the beginning of the Massa river that flows into the Rhone river. At the hotel we stayed in, there were very old photos hanging on the wall of the glacier which was much longer back at the time. Another proof of the ever changing world we live in, another proof of the effects of our human actions.
- Lac de Sanetsch, Valais Being an outdoor photographer means that you see the world differently than other people. Not necessary in a better way though. I'm obsessed with light, and while before being a photographer I used to be in awe of a beautiful landscape on a bright sunny afternoon, today I'd still find it nice but I would miss something in order to be fully amazed: the perfect light. It's no secret that the harsh midday light is the worst nightmare of any photographer, and since it has been my job, I don't even bother shooting when it's a blue bird sky day.
- Lötschental, Valais We had no hope for sunset that day. After having insisted so much to push dinner time at the 5-star mountain hut in the valley of Lötschental to allow us to shoot sunset that evening, we actually felt very bad when 30min before dark, we understood nothing was going to happen due to the clouds. On our way back to the hut to have dinner at the originally planned time with all the guests, that incredible show just happened out of nowhere. We had to put on our boots again, and run like kids to capture those insane rays of light. No need to say we arrived late for dinner in the end. #peaksofeurope
- Val d'Hérens, Valais When I arrived in the Alps mid-August, I was a bit disappointed to not have been there earlier to fully enjoy the classic greens of the mountains and the flowers blooming everywhere. I arrived 3 weeks too late for the flowers. However, when I discover the autumn mix of reds, yellows and greens popping out of nowhere just overnight, I was stoked! Autumn has to be the most beautiful season in the Alps, with sugar coated mountain tops, softer light and morning fog. #peaksofeurope
- Lac de Derborence, Valais After one week spent in Switzerland early September where I mostly experienced winter conditions, I came back 10 days ago to witness the arrival of the autumn colors. I'll be hiking in the country until the end of my road trip, next Monday, and will be sharing lots of autumn vibes on the next few days. I hope you're ready for some nice warm colors!
- France
14 September - 22 September
- Aiguilles du Mt Blanc - Haute-Savoie The Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice) as seen from Lac Blanc. What you see here is just a tiny part of France's biggest glacier, although it loses 4-5 meters of ice every year. For all who don't believe it, global warming because of human activity is real and retreating glaciers are the proof of it.
- Col du Galibier - Savoie Look out for the car and it'll give you a sense of scale. I wish I were standing on that ridge though! #peaksofeurope
- Col du Galibier - Savoie Sunset alpine pass drives on one of France's highest roads - @toyota.europe. #peaksofeurope Shot for @savoiemontblanc #savoiemontblanc
- Mt Blanc - Haute-Savoie When Western Europe's highest mountain Mont Blanc turns into flames! One of the most insane sunsets I have ever seen, and the craziest thing about it is that just 30min before, we were absolutely hopeless about anything interesting that would happen in the sky which was just grey. Magic exists! #peaksofeurope @savoiemontblanc #savoiemontblanc
- Réserve naturelle de Passy, Haute-Savoie On our way up to the Lac de Pormenaz, we were blessed with some incredible views down the valley of Passy in Haute-Savoie. The hike to the lake was probably even better than the lake itself. Full of old ropes and vertical ladders to climb. So much fun! Can you spot my car? #peaksofeurope @savoiemontblanc #savoiemonblanc
- Chamonix, Haute-Savoie 10pm at 2,360m above sea level, freezing my ass off in order to capture the core of the Milky Way slowly setting south of Mont Blanc, both the Alps and Western Europe's highest peak. It sure isn't an emblematic looking mountain like the Matterhorn or Fitz Roy can be, but when you're coming from Valle d'Aosta on a summer day when all the snow has melt and you see the huge Mont Blanc massif and its glaciers appearing far in the distance, you really understand why it is called "White Mount". By the way, the light in the valley is the town of Chamonix #peaksofeurope @savoiemontblanc #savoiemontblanc
- Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Next time I'll be in Chamonix Mont-Blanc, I'll be one these guys. I've been thinking of getting an introduction to mountaineering for too long, and I cannot handle the wait anymore. Hopefully soon enough! #peaksofeurope @savoiemontblanc #savoiemontblanc
- Chamonix-Mont-Blanc The French Alps. The Mont-Blanc massif. Some of the most dramatic mountains I've ever seen. I was dreaming of seeing the region of Chamonix for ages and it sure didn't disappoint at all! This is the view you get from 3,842m / 12,602ft above sea level. Insane! #peaksofeurope @savoiemontblanc #savoiemontblanc
- Switzerland
8 September - 13 September
- Piora, Ticino An alpine tarn as Kiwis say. Or perhaps they say that in England too? The best for nice reflection and sometimes even an afternoon nap! I used to chase them all in the Southern Alps when I lived in New Zealand and I was stoked to find one of those in the Piora Valley in Switzerland. #peaksofeurope @ticinoturismo
- Piora, Ticino The day we almost hiked for no view.
- Flims This car has been my home for 3 months now, bringing me to some very remote places of continental Europe. Life on the road isn't easy everyday and through #PeaksOfEurope this is what I also wanted to document. You can see a glimpse of it in my daily InstaStories. The life of a travel photographer being full time on the road for nearly half a year, with all the good moments but also the more difficult ones.
- Caumasee When I look at this photo, all I can see is a reversed Australia-shaped alpine lake. Can you see it too? #peaksofeurope @myswitzerland | @graubuenden
- Engadin St. Moritz Mountains After two days of endless rain, it was unbelievable to wake up to a winter scenery on our third day in the Engadin Valley. Although the snow melted in less than 24 hours, it was crazy to witness that the mountain passes went from golden brown to completely white just overnight, still on a summer day (shot taken on the 10th of September). #peaksofeurope @myswitzerland | @graubuenden
- Engadin St. Moritz Remote life in the Engadin valley, far away from the crowds. This house is part of an old village that look like abandoned but is not. Although the exterior of the buildings aren't very inviting, when we had a look through the windows we discovered a warm, modern and cosy wooden-made interior that made me look forward to winter evenings! #peaksofeurope @myswitzerland | @graubuenden
- Julier Pass It always amazes me how mountain pass roads can look like alpine rivers sometimes. Here, the Julier pass road perfectly blends in with the Julia river. On another note, anyone else sees Dugtrio in that road shape? #peaksofeurope Shot for @myswitzerland | @graubuenden
- Germany
4 September - 8 September
- Allgäu Alps The Allgäu Alps in Germany. They have been on my radar for quite some time now. Unfortunately I only had a couple of days to spend there and the hiking conditions have been very hard. This is a shot I managed to take during a very brief sunny spell. I'll have to come back here for some proper missions in those incredible mountains. #peaksofeurope Shot for @germanytourism
- Geroldsee Blue hour by the lake. Cold but the most rewarding moments #peaksofeurope
- Garmisch Hands down one of the best sunsets of the last 4 months on the road! #peaksofeurope Shot for @germanytourism #visitgermany
- Neuschwanstein Castle This one's for @delphinepolson who's dreaming of seeing Disneyland's original Sleeping Beauty castle and couldn't be with me that day. #peaksofeurope Shot for @germanytourism
- Gerold, Bayern, Germany It was a cold evening. The day before there was no snow at all on the peaks. The first sign of autumn in the Bavarian Alps, slowly settling in. #peaksofeurope Shot for @germanytourism
- Austria
30 August - 3 September
- Alpbachtal I took that shot in Tyrol, Austria, two weeks ago. After 3 consecutive days of 0 visibility and endless rain, when the view finally cleared up, the whole Alps woke up to snow covered mountains. Three days later it was already all melted but still, first proper snowfall of the season happened early September, still in the summer! #peaksofeurope @alpbachtal_tirol @visitaustria
- Zürs He didn't want to move so we stared at each other for a while until eventually he let me pass. #peaksofeurope
- Innsbruck - Tirol Legs out on a doors-off heli flight above the Alps. Being super scared of heights I would have never thought one day I would be doing that but I did it. And boy did it make me feel alive! #peaksofeurope
- Innsbruck, Tyrol I could stare at these textures for days and still trying to understand how beautiful nature can be. #peaksofeurope
- Zurser See, Vorarlberg A popular alpine lake summer destination empty of people. I had the whole spot for myself for hours until the evening fog rolled in and made the scenery disappear in just a couple of minutes. Experiencing the changing season at its best here in the Alps. #peaksofeurope . Shot for @lechzuers | @visitvorarlberg
- Lech, Vorarlberg The unique texture of that green mountain in Vorarlberg, Austria made me feel like I was back in Iceland for an hour. #peaksofeurope . Shot for @lechzuers | @visitvorarlberg
- Alpbachtal Seenland Tirol It's been incredibly rainy and moody in the past few days here in the Alps. Autumn is definitely knocking at the door and I guess it's now time to store the solar shower away until next year and put the down jacket and shell on after 2 months of almost no rain. #peaksofeurope @visitaustria @alpbachtal_tirol
- Innsbruck - Tyrol Flying above one of my favorite cities in a helicopter, doors off. Definitely a sunset to remember. Huge thanks to @innsbrucktourism and @visittirol for making that happen!
- Italy
23 August - 30 August
- Giau Pass, Dolomites Yet another beautiful morning in the Dolomites #peaksofeurope
- Tre Cime, Dolomites Shelter for the night, high up in the mountains. #peaksofeurope
- Alpe di Siusi, Dolomites Little house on the prairie. #peaksofeurope
- Lago di Braies, Dolomites Beyond the fact that this truly is a beautiful lake, I guess there are mainly three reasons why it's so popular and why every single photographer would go there or wants to go there once in his life.
- Passo Rolle, Dolomites The small things. #peaksofeurope
- Alpe di Siusi, Dolomites Golden mornings x Europe's largest alpine meadow. #peaksofeurope
- Vajolet Towers, Dolomites As the light faded away the low clouds started to smoothly disappear, leaving us with the most impressive view of those dramatic towers. #peaksofeurope @visitsouthtyrol
- Tre Cime, Dolomites The last days of summer in Tre Cime Nature Park. That was a week ago. Now these giants are covered in snow after the recent blizzard and the flowers are probably faded. #peaksofeurope
- Tre Cime, Dolomites Moments before the storm. I always love the dramatic pre-storm lighting that the big coming dark clouds produce when overcasting a sunny day. As we were on our way to the Locatelli refuge, I looked back at the Lavaredo refuge almost in the shadow. Probably one of Italy's most scenic mountains huts if you ask me. But I haven't seen 90% of them haha. #peaksofeurope
- Tre Cime, Dolomites Moments after the storm. Staying overnight at this mountain hut has been on my list for quite some time. Last November a massive blizzard hit the Dolomites right when I was ready to hike to the hut. We had to cancel our trip. Eventually I had the chance to get there last week with Robert. The hike to the hut has probably one of the best views/effort ratio as it's mostly flat. Luckily it was flat! Not that I couldn't have handled a steep climb but the more we were approaching the hut, the closer a storm was getting to us. I really feel unsafe during thunderstorms especially when I'm outside. 10 minutes before reaching the tent, a very clear, sharp and beautiful lightning lit up the sky, directly followed by a very loud thunder. Some might laugh but I started to run for my life as fast as possible to find shelter at the hut, freaking out that a second lightning would hit me or the tripod that was attached to my backpack. We made it literally 1 minute before hailstones fell off the sky, nice and safe (and dry). Eventually, the storm passed and the sky in the distance turned purple offering the Locatelli hut and surroundings a very dramatic aspect. It was a great afternoon! #peaksofeurope @haglofs
- Seceda, Dolomites When we arrived at the top of Seceda for sunrise, I was gutted to discover we were there at the wrong time of the year to actually see the sun rise (it rose behind the big group of mountains here in the center of the frame). Though my disappointment only lasted a couple of minutes as I quickly got excited by the dramatic mood the blue hour was offering us at that classic spot of the Dolomites. That big drop though. You have to see it to fully enjoy it. No photos will ever do justice. #peaksofeurope
- Alpe di Siusi, Dolomites Just imagine being a 8-year old kid and living there with your parents, brothers and sisters. I mean, seriously, just think of the unlimited possibilities of fun in those rolling meadows. In summer and in winter obviously. #peaksofeurope @visitsouthtyrol
- Lago di Carezza, Dolomites In the past 10 days, twice I've found myself wondering what was the real purpose of photography. Once looking at hanging old framed photos of farmers and their families in the Dolomites, probably taken 50-60 years ago, once in a Tyrolean farm built in the 17th century, looking at photos of ceremonies and highlight events of a 70-year old farmer's life. Both times humans were the main subject of the photos that caught my attention. I don't want to draw any conclusion too fast but I will sure keep meditate about this for a long time until I find an answer. In the meantime I'd like to know what YOU think is the main purpose of photography. Maybe it'll help me find my own answer. #peaksofeurope
- Slovenia
15 August - 22 August
- Triglav National Park "Beyond a certain altitude, one cannot conceive of evil thoughts". Paul Morand. #peaksofeurope
- Kranjska Gora Wishing for dramatic cloud formations in the mountains that don't make camping and hiking an easy task but help create epicness and unique images, or hoping for blue bird skies that offer all you need for the best time ever on the road. The eternal dilemma on which I'm torn everyday. #peaksofeurope
- Triglav National Park hen we arrived at the Koča na Mangrtskem Sedlu mountain hut, I was so surprised to find permanent staff working there who would also cook you dinner and prepare breakfast for you. After two weeks in the Alps I now know it's a standard here but believe it or not, with New Zealand and Canada mountain huts as my only point of comparison, I would never ever have expected to find such welcoming huts far up in the mountains. I've spent many winters skiing in the Alps but actually never been here before in the summer. Discovering and exploring the closest mountain range from my home country in a totally different season from what I've known so far was one of the main reasons I decided to spend this summer in Europe instead of at the other side of the planet as I did for the past 3 years. @haglofs #peaksofeurope
- Triglav National Park Mountains as far as the eye can see. Slovenia has to be one of the most underrated countries of Europe. #peaksofeurope
- Triglav National Park Finally back in the mountains and hot summer days are now just a memory. That morning at 2,200m / 7,200ft @delphinepolson couldn't get out of her sleeping bag. #peaksofeurope
- Triglav National Park The Soča that flows through Triglav National Park in Slovenia has to be one of the clearest and purest rivers I've ever seen. Even on a rainy day the colors would blow your mind! Thanks Shane for the epic backflip :) #peaksofeurope
- Lake Bled Lake Bled, Slovenia's most famous alpine lake. I thought the water would be freezing cold but I was really surprised to see how warm it was and how many people were enjoying a swim in it. @delphinepolson went for the morning paddle instead, not bad either. #PeaksOfEurope
- Logar Valley After 6 weeks spent in the Balkans chasing beaches and mountains under the warm Mediterranean sun, I've finally made it to the Alps for the third and last leg of my 5-month road trip #PeaksOfEurope. I recently spent an amazing week in Slovenia's Julian Alps. This country was a big surprise. I still can't believe how pure and unspoiled those beautiful glacial valleys are!
- Montenegro
8 August - 14 August
- Durmitor National Park Views from the roads in Montenegro aren't too bad are they? #peaksofeurope
- Durmitor National Park I don't know who built up a cabin up there but he sure has some good taste. #peaksofeurope
- Pivisko Lake Turquoise fjord-like lakes of the Balkans stole my heart. If only their edges were not littered with tons of rubbish. But hey, "that's how it is in the Balkans", right? No it's not right. When I focused on the pollution in those countries in my stories, that's the answer many local people gave me. Yeah so what? Does it mean that's because this is how it is and has been for decades that there's no way to change the way it is now? It starts with little things first obviously.
- Crno Lake The best travel partner I could ever have dreamt of, following me in all of my crazy adventures and waking up at 5am for cold and crisp sunrises with a smile. Here's to more of these with you #peaksofeurope
- Durmitor National Park Montenegro was the best foretaste for what's to come: 2 months in the Alps. Anyone around keen to join me for some proper adventure in the mountains? #peaksofeurope
- Durmitor National Park The mountains of Durmitor National Park, Montenegro got me speechless. The texture, the perfect mix of grass and rocks, the hidden valleys and the pristine blue lakes. It was fun hiking through them!
- Croatia
01 August - 07 August
- Sibenik A mid-August sunset in Croatia from a remote self-made campground. I was amazed to discover that autumn colors are already making their way in that part of the Mediterranean, while they're probably not fully there yet in northern Scandinavia, a region of the world that is one the first to experience autumn. Strange and amazing world isn't it. #peaksofeurope
- Trsteno Sunsets on the Dalmatian coast in Croatia have that little something that I haven't found in Greece or other Mediterranean countries. Obviously the peaky islands of the Adriatic help give that dramatic look, but being able to watch sunset from a higher elevated point of view than 99% of all the other people made us feel very privileged. Indeed, most of the visitors in Croatia stay along the coast, at sea or highway level, while I always tried to find a remote mountain road to have the show just for ourselves. Good memories. #peaksofeurope
- Trsteno Why do I love camping so much? Give me a private beach, a rooftop tent, a solar shower warmed by the burning sun and mountains in the background and I'm a happy man. Of all the nights since the beginning of this trip, the ones spent sleeping in the middle of nowhere with no one else around but the two of us to enjoy the sound of the waves were hands down my favorite. And I won't lie, being properly equipped with an auxiliary battery for electricity, a complete cooking kit, a real fridge and all those little extra, it definitely makes life easier and camping in the wild even more enjoyable.
- Brsečine Croatia's Dalmatian coast was the most perfect place we could have dreamt of to relax and enjoy some slower time after 3 weeks spent traveling all around Greece. We had to wait around Dubrovnik for 4 days for a new car insurance's green card so @delphinepolson and I made the best out of it by doing nothing else than cliff jumping in the Adriatic Sea and sunbathing on beautiful pebble beaches. #peaksofeurope
- Albania
28 July - 31 July
- Valbonë Valley From the valley of Theth to the valley of Valbonë in Albania it's about 10km as the crow flies. However, to reach them both by car would take at least one full day. For that you just have two options: drive all around the mountains for a long 260km / 8-hour journey (yes, 8 hours for 260km ; that says a lot about the conditions of Albanian roads), or shorten that by taking a 2-hr ferry trip on Komani Lake after 5 hrs of driving. We chose the second option, but these locals had a third one. Crossing the Valbonë pass on a 17km mule track that should take just half a day. Easy.
- Theth National Park Fun times exploring the valley of Theth in Albania
- Theth National Park Since the beginning of this 5-month road trip, the best surprise so far has been the mountains of Northern Albania, and the whole experience to get there. For some reason no one ever told me about the beauty of the mountains in that part of the world. Being so close to Greece I've always imagined Albania sharing similar vistas but I was so wrong. At least for the north, I found myself in some deep remote places of Europe, places that you can only access after several hours of driving on gravel and bumpy roads. A strange mix between Canada, Central Asia and Alaska, even though I've never been to any of the last two. Oh man, Albania is beautiful!
- Greece
24 June - 28 July
- Meteora I've never been to China but it's been a dream of mine for long. Somehow when I visited the Meteora in Greece I couldn't help but think I was somewhere deep inland in that intriguing country, with many centuries old monasteries perched on top of giant monoliths, home to Shaolin monks and white-bearded masters. Pastel colors at sunset giving the lush green mountains a mystical look. This is exactly how I imagine China. #peaksofeurope #killbill
- Meteora The Meteora in Greece, one of the most incredible places I've ever been to and definitely the most crazy rock formation I've ever seen. Not only are those immense pillars a true gem but they are also home to old monasteries from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. It's just a place you need to see with your own eyes. #peaksofeurope
- Navagio, Greece Greece's most photographed beach for a reason. #peaksofeurope
- Greece Every time I see a gravel road, I can't help but drive it to see what it's in the end. And sometimes I get rewarded with the perfect spot where to set up camp for the night. Just imagine waking up with the first light gently heating your head, with the sound of the sea for alarm and the silhouette of the mountains for background. #peaksofeurope
- Santorini Perfect lighting and didn't have to wait in a queue to take that shot. I will never repeat it enough, the only way to truly enjoy Oia in Santorini - if you also want to experience the old narrow streets and not only stay in your 5-star hotel - is to wake up early and be out for sunrise. But don't tell anyone, it's a well kept secret for now that very few tourists know about. #peaksofeurope
- Santorini On the other side of this picture perfect scene, a crowd of several thousands tourists all gathered at the same spot in order to witness the sun setting behind the village of Oia. If you watched my stories 2 weeks ago, here and on @johanlolos, you know what I mean and how it really looked like, the true face of Santorini that no photographer ever features. It really disgusted me of that place, but the good thing though is how you can get to the same place, with the same view, and some would say with a better light, when you wake up at 5am and enjoy the sunrise in one of Greece's most famous place. #peaksofeurope
- Crete After an amazing week in Crete, my mum's island, it was time to move forward and head off to other regions of Greece. I can't remember the last time I visited this island. Maybe 9 years ago, maybe 10, I don't know. What I know though, is that Crete never left my heart. The amazing people always willing to help you, the nice family time with grand uncles welcoming you back with open arms, the best food in the world, the hidden bays, and so on... It was also the first time I discovered Crete's south and west coasts, places my parents never brought me to when I was younger. Next time, I will focus on the east coast which seems to have so many hidden gems. Crete I swear, I'll be back. Thanks for having me.
- Laguna Balos, Crete Blue lagoons of Crete. Can you spot the tiny boat, not-so-tiny in real? #peaksofeurope
- Síses, Rethimni I don't know how many times I saw that view in my life. When I was a kid and used to come to Crete with my parents for the summer holiday, that overlook of the perched village of Sises meant we were just 15min away from our favorite local beach: Bali. Coming from a village in the mountains, the sea couldn't be seen when we stayed at my grandparents house. It's only once we reached the pass on our way to the beach that we could see Sises and the sea in the background, and it couldn't get me more excited as a kid. 20 years later, I was feeling the same as I knew I was going to be back to my old favorite beach! #peaksofeurope
- Loutro There's no road going there, making it impossible to drive to that spot. The only way to get to that little paradise is to hike or to arrive by boat. Probably one of Crete's last hidden gems. No wonder why most of the people going there in the summer are Greeks coming to spend their holiday. #peaksofeurope
- Crete Waking up to that view, enjoying a refreshing swim first thing in the morning and starting off the day with a Freddo Espresso in a hammock at Pavlos' taverna with the sound of the sea kissing the pebble beach as a background music. I could have definitely made this my daily routine but I had to leave this little paradise to keep exploring my ancestors land. But I'll be back to that spot one day, hoping to find it exactly as I left it: unspoiled. #peaksofeurope
- Bálos If you like street photo do not miss my story from today and please share your feedback with me, it would mean a lot. More and more I'll try to shoot human life rather than empty landscapes. It certainly will be a challenge as I find it hard to master street photography. Meanwhile here's a shot taken in Crete, 2 weeks ago. It kind of is street photo too if you replace humans with sheep isn't it. Btw how many sheep can you see? #peaksofeurope
- Crete As much as I love being in the mountains, I somehow keep going back to the sea. Some of my favorite places on Earth are a perfect mix of both, whether they are in the Nordic countries or in warmer locations. As part of my 5-month road trip #peaksofeurope I left the North for the South on July 1st. Here I am now in the Mediterranean, starting my southern trip in Greece. If you follow my daily InstaStories you'd know that I've been here for 3 weeks already. It took me a bit of time to start working on my photos from this trip but they're finally coming. Here's to summer vibes, golden sand beaches, turquoise bays and old mountain villages filled with wild cats and mountain goats. Hope you'll enjoy what comes next as I've tried to document my trip the best I could!
- Iceland
16 June - 24 June
- Landmannalaugar For the last photo of my Iceland series, let me please share with you a drone selfportrait that I took in one of the most incredible and surreal places I've ever been to! Tomorrow I'll be answering your questions in my InstaStories. Whether it's about photo gear, my 5-month road trip #peaksofeurope or anything else, #AMA and I'll try my best to answer you :)
- Landmannalaugar With the early morning light, this mountain looked like an ice cream or some kind of fluffy marshmallow. I know it's a weird comparison but trust me it really did look like that in real! #peaksofeurope
- Iceland I just want to keep sharing older images like this one I took in Iceland a month ago. Another reason for this also is that being full time on the road, and with the laziness and tiredness that comes with the extremely high temperatures, I haven't got the chance to properly edit any photos from Greece yet. But the time will come and I can't wait to show you the country of my ancestors through my lens, also it sure will be a big change from what I used to capture the last two years. I guess this is also part of the challenge. #peaksofeurope
- Þórsmörk Patterns of the Highlands #peaksofeurope
- South Iceland This photo shows a very brief moment (exactly 1/500 of a second) and yet the amount of water pictured here is almost impossible to calculate. Just imagine now how much water is running through this waterfall alone every minute, every hour and every day! Nature is such a crazy thing when you really start thinking of it. #peaksofeurope
- Iceland One of the most breathtaking places I've ever been to! #peaksofeurope
- Iceland Today is Day 54 of my road trip around Europe and I'm currently in Greece. Since I've hit the road almost two months ago I've witnessed many sunrises as part of my photography project, but that one I experienced on Day 42 in Iceland will be hard to beat for sure. I just couldn't believe my eyes that day, and it sure wasn't because of the lack of sleep! #peaksofeurope
- Iceland You don't get to see the Highlands lit by the morning sun every day but when you do it's a show you will never want to forget. #peaksofeurope
- Iceland Just a casual late afternoon swim in a hidden hot spring pool in Iceland. #peaksofeurope
- Thorsmork It always amazes me to witness how water and life are so linked to each other. #peaksofeurope @toyotaiceland
- Landmannalaugar Iceland sure feels like being on another planet. #peaksofeurope Thanks for the epic scenic flight above the Highlands @flightseeing!
- Vík Today is my last day in Iceland. In 12 hours I fly back home for a few days, to get ready for the second leg of my 5-month road trip that will start on Saturday. I've already taken 10K+ photos in the last 10 days (and half of them were shot yesterday on that epic scenic flight above the Highlands, don't miss out today's story!) and haven't had the chance to properly edit any of them yet, so here's a photo I took on my last trip here 2 months ago and that I haven't shared yet. This has been my iPhone background for a month now, if you want it too go follow my other account @johanlolos and I'll upload it soon in the Stories ;)
- Kerlingarfjoll As soon as we landed in Iceland we hit the road and drove straight to this place in the Highlands that I had never visited before. This is my 4th trip to the land of Fire and Ice and I have to say the landscape that appeared to me that day just blew my mind. I've never seen such a dramatic vista before. #peaksofeurope.
- Norway
30 May - 15 June
- Haukland beach, Lofoten A last one from my recent trip to Northern Norway. I've been so unlucky with the weather here in Iceland so far so it feels good to look back at those images of the endless golden summer light I experienced in the Arctic. #peaksofeurope
- Reine, Lofoten The Lofoten Islands need your help. Of all the places in the world, the Lofoten, Vesterålen and Senja islands are amongst my favorite and this is why I keep returning there at least once a year not only to photograph them, but also because I've never found any place like this anywhere else. The coastline of that part of Northern Norway is one of the most beautiful and unique on Earth, but that might change very soon.
- Lofoten Back from beyond the Wall. #peaksofeurope
- Ryten, Lofoten Explore the outdoors and enjoy the longest days of the year. This was shot at 1am in the Lofoten. #peaksofeurope
- Hamnoy, Lofoten That 4am morning glow. Classics are called classics for a reason and sometimes it's just hard to beat the most famous angles no matter how bad you want something more unique. I left Norway a couple of days ago and I'm now in Iceland (don't miss out my daily stories), exploring the Highlands. But before posting some fresh Icelandic content, I still have a few shots from @northernnorway I'd like to share.
- Spitsbergen, Svalbard The sight you get on a regular flight to Longyearbyen from Tromsø. I don't know many places offering this kind of views when flying above from a Boeing 737. #peaksofeurope @visitsvalbard @northernnorway
- Spitsbergen, Svalbard It's a whole different world up here in Svalbard. Finally I had the opportunity to visit the Arctic archipelago (although I just stayed on Spitsbergen) that lies at 78°N, 1300km away from the North Pole. A surreal experience, trust me! #peaksofeurope @visitsvalbard @northernnorway
- Sommaroy Mountains, fjords, turquoise water and white sand beaches. What else do you need? #peaksofeurope @visittromso @northernnorway
- Sommaroy Which beach would you choose for a midnight sun swim? PS: you probably can't see me but I'm standing in that red little boat. #peaksofeurope @northernnorway @visittromso
- Senja See where the snow stops? That's a 500m vertical drop to the sea. Now find the tiny person in the frame and it'll give you a sense of scale. #peaksofeurope @haglofs@northernnorway @visitsenjaregion
- Senja Midnight sun hikes are my new favorite passion. Shot at 1am. #peaksofeurope . Don't miss out today's story featuring aerial shots of Svalbard (78°N)@northernnorway @visitsenjaregion
- Vesterålen One day I'll have my own getaway cabin for those endless summer days, this is my new life goal. #peaksofeurope @flynorwegian #flyNorwegian . @visitvesteralen @northernnorway
- Matind, Vesteralen This is where dinosaurs used to live, right? #peaksofeurope @visitvesteralen @northernnorway
- Lofoten Just imagine having your bedroom window facing the midnight sun. A nightmare for some, a dream to me. @lofoteninfo @northernnorway
- Kvalvika, Lofoten Hiking back to the car on a Saturday early morning at 1am, somewhere in the Lofoten. #peaksofeurope @northernnorway @lofoteninfo 3-image panorama shot with the @djiglobal Mavic Pro #mymavic
- Scenic flight Lofoten Untouched, wild nature. #peaksofeurope @lofoteninfo @northernnorway
- Scenic flight Lofoten Sea, lakes, rugged peaks, crashing waves, snow, fog, rain and blue skies. This is Lofoten islands natural elements all in one shot. #peaksofeurope . @northernnorway @lofoteninfo
- Moskenes, Lofoten Early June blizzard above the Arctic Circle. The weather here in the Lofoten is unpredictable and changes so fast. This is one of the reasons that makes me come back at least once a year to this incredible archipelago. #peaksofeurope @northernnorway @lofoteninfo
- Scotland
15 May - 26 May
- Torridon, North-West Highlands, Scotland The storms that cabin must have witnessed. Could you live there? #peaksofeurope
- Old Man of Storr, Isle of Skye, Scotland. We camped nearby the Old Man. After a crazy windy night, we had very little hope for the light to break through the clouds for sunrise, but somehow magic happened that morning. It was unbelievable. #peaksofeurope
-
- Elgol, Highland, United Kingdom This is how every summer evenings should be spent. #peaksofeurope
-
-
- Elgol, Skye, Scotland There's a new girls band in town. #peaksofeurope
-
- Neist Point, Skye, Scotland Rush hour on Skye. #peaksofeurope
- Quiraing, Isle of Skye, Scotland Waking up to that view is truly something else. #peaksofeurope I've arrived yesterday in Norway as part of my 5-month road trip across Europe.
- Quiraing, Isle of Skye, Scotland That place is just out of this world. Tiny hikers for scale. #peaksofeurope @visitscotland #scotspirit

-
- Glenfinnan Viaduct, Scotland Light or shadow? Griffindor or Slytherin? #peaksofeurope @visitscotland #scotspirit
- West Highlands, Scotland The eternal battle between light and dark. #peaksofeurope
- Beinn Dorain, Bridge of Orchy, Scotland This is not Iceland, this is Scotland. Stoked to be back on the road. The next 5 months are going to be epic! #peaksofeurope @visitscotland #scotspirit
